GI Ranch

A Premier Cattle & Recreation Ranch in Eastern Oregon

Set against the rugged beauty of Eastern Central Oregon, G I Ranch is a working cattle ranch with a rich history of land stewardship, sustainable agriculture, and private recreation opportunities.

Discover GI Ranch

Our founder, Bill Smith, acquired G I Ranch in the early '80s, and today, with 23,455 + deeded acres, 3,400 acres of irrigation water rights, 103,000+ acres of non-deeded grazing, and carefully maintained wildlife habitats, G I Ranch exemplifies the balance between productive ranching and conservation.

G I Ranch is located near the south fork of the Crooked River in Eastern Central Oregon. The ranch encompasses the acreage mentioned above, and irrigation water rights for the pivot hay fields and meadow pastures. It is a productive, income producing cattle ranch that sells most of the calves to neighbors who manage the County Natural Beef collective. Meaning, if you're in Central Oregon and buy your beef from local purveyors it's likely you've enjoyed G I Beef!

The landscape of G I Ranch is a diverse combination of high desert, meadows, springs, lakes, creeks, canyons and the headwaters of the South Fork of the Crooked River. The ranch includes BLM/State grazing allotments, is fenced, crossed with developed livestock water from springs, wells, and pipelines. The headquarters for the ranch is private, overlooking the lake and includes multiple homes, bunkhouses, barns, shop, pipe corrals, and scales. The ranch shows years of land stewardship including development of wildlife habitats, fisheries in the natural streams and lakes, vast grassland management, and private recreational opportunities.
